On this page you will find the current official software version of all common Minelab metal detectors, the most important new features for each model and a clear recommendation as to whether an update makes sense for you.
Minelab releases firmware updates at irregular intervals. Some updates bring genuine functional enhancements, others only minor stability improvements. So that you do not update unnecessarily, we have given each model a recommendation. All updates are carried out via the free Minelab Update Utility (MUU) on a Windows or Mac computer.
Download the update software (MUU), connect the detector via the magnetic USB cable, switch it on – the rest runs automatically.
A PC or Mac with a USB port and the original charging cable. Smartphones and tablets are not supported.
Your settings are retained. If an update is interrupted, it can easily be repeated – and you can go back to an older version at any time.
| Model | Current version | Released | Update? | Most important changes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MANTICORE 6.20.0-3.7.1 Minelab | 6.20.0-3.7.1 | June 2023 | Recommended | New stabiliser (0–12) against iron false signals, a much stronger Goldfield mode, freely assignable softkey shortcuts, iron target IDs that can be coloured red, an underwater headphone boost and general stability improvements. The ML 105 wireless headphones receive their own update. |
| EQUINOX 900 1.79.0-3.3.4 Minelab | 1.79.0-3.3.4 | June 2024 | Recommended | New iron bias level “−1” for more aggressive separation on heavily iron-contaminated sites, continuous auto noise cancel for better suppression of changing EMI interference and general stability improvements. |
| EQUINOX 700 1.79.0-3.3.4 Minelab | 1.79.0-3.3.4 | June 2024 | Recommended | Identical to the EQUINOX 900: iron bias “−1”, continuous auto noise cancel and stability improvements. |
| EQUINOX 800 Software 3.0 Minelab | Software 3.0 | July 2020 | Recommended | Additional 4 kHz single frequency and stability improvements. Important: This is a separate update – the EQUINOX 700/900 package is not suitable for this. |
| EQUINOX 600 Software 3.0 Minelab | Software 3.0 | July 2020 | Recommended | Like the EQUINOX 800: new 4 kHz single frequency and stability improvements. Also a separate update. |
| X-TERRA PRO 1.79.0-3.3.4 Minelab | 1.79.0-3.3.4 | June 2024 | Recommended | Continuous auto noise cancel for better suppression of changing EMI sources – helpful near power lines and other detectors. |
| X-TERRA ELITE up to date from the factory | up to date from the factory | – | Up to date from the factory | Already supplied with the current software version. Please do not install the X-TERRA PRO update – it is not intended for the ELITE. |
| VANQUISH 540 Update 1.1 Minelab | Update 1.1 | August 2020 | Recommended | Improved battery management with a low-battery warning plus an additional 10-level iron volume control for finer adjustment of the iron volume. |
| VANQUISH 440 Update 1.1 Minelab | Update 1.1 | August 2020 | Recommended | Improved battery management and low-battery warning. |
| VANQUISH 340 Update 1.1 Minelab | Update 1.1 | August 2020 | Recommended | Improved battery management and low-battery warning. |
| VANQUISH 360 / 460 / 560 no separate package | no separate package | – | No update | The new VANQUISH generation can in principle be updated, but Minelab has not yet released a separate firmware package for it. |
| GPZ 7000 1.2.8-98 Minelab | 1.2.8-98 | 2017 | Recommended | Improvements to ground balance and ferrite ground balance for smoother running in difficult, mineralised ground. |
| GPX 6000 no public update | no public update | – | No update | The USB port is intended for future firmware updates; so far Minelab has not provided a public update package. |
| GOLD MONSTER 2000 no public update | no public update | – | No update | Can in principle be updated, but currently without a separate firmware update. |
| CTX 3030 Firmware 08/2016 Minelab | Firmware 08/2016 | August 2016 | Optional | Last published CTX firmware update, including additional language support. Only necessary if your device has an older version. |
Firmware versions can change at any time. The versions stated here reflect the officially available version at the time of the last update of this page. If in doubt, always check the update utility or the official Minelab download page.
All current Minelab detectors are updated via the Minelab Update Utility (MUU) – a small program for Windows and macOS. There is a separate update utility for each of the MANTICORE, EQUINOX 700/900 and the ML 105 headphones.
Using the free Minelab Update Utility (MUU) on a Windows or Mac computer. The detector is connected via the magnetic USB charging cable; the utility guides you through the process. Smartphones and tablets are not supported.
Yes. The update can only be carried out via a PC or Mac with a USB 2.0 port. You need an internet connection to download the utility; the firmware itself can then be installed offline.
No. Your personal settings are retained during the update. Only if an update is interrupted at a very unfortunate moment is there a small risk that settings will be reset.
The process can always be recovered. The most common cause is a loose cable contact. Restart the detector and the update utility, reconnect the device and run the update again – the utility will recognise the detector even if the display is initially black.
Yes. The current update utility contains all previously released versions. Use the three-dot menu at the bottom right to select the earlier version you want and install it.
No. The X-TERRA ELITE is already supplied with the current software version. The X-TERRA PRO update must not be installed on the ELITE.
No, these are separate software packages. Software 3.0 (with an additional 4 kHz frequency) is intended for the EQUINOX 600 and 800, not the update for the 700/900 series.
