Features & functions

The XP ICON transfers the core technology of the DEUS II into a more accessible format — with simplified operation, new icon navigation and a fully wireless architecture.

FMF multi-frequency

Fast Multi-Frequency from 4 to 45 kHz — the same technology as in the DEUS II, now for the first time in XP's mid-range. Superior ground stability and precise target discrimination even in mineralised ground.

Selectable single frequencies

In addition to simultaneous mode, single frequencies can be selected manually — 4 and 14 kHz on the ICON, plus 28 kHz on the ICON X. Ideal for specific types of target or for suppressing electrical interference in the field.

Factory and user programs

The ICON offers 3 factory programs and 3 user programs, the ICON X 6 + 6 — ready-to-use search profiles plus freely configurable slots for your own field settings.

Fully wireless

The coil, control unit (RCICON) and headphones communicate via XP's patented wireless protocol — 10× faster than Bluetooth and without noticeable latency.

New operating concept

Larger display, icon-based navigation and physical buttons instead of a touchscreen — much more accessible than previous XP models and particularly suitable for beginners.

Deus compatibility

The standard mount is compatible with XP Deus / Deus II shafts. Existing XP search coils of the DEUS II system can also be used.

Ground balance

Automatic and manual ground balance for mineralised ground. The signal processing speed can be set separately — important on ground densely littered with junk.

Iron volume

Separate volume control for iron signals — indispensable for experienced detectorists to keep iron audible without discriminating out useful targets.

Customisable audio response

The audio response is configurable — pitch, threshold and multi-tone options allow precise target differentiation by ear, as you are used to from XP detectors.

Quick switch to all-metal mode

A dedicated button allows an instant switch to all-metal mode — practical in the field when you want to hear an interesting signal undiscriminated for a moment.

USB-C charging

Integrated battery with a modern USB-C connector. No proprietary charger needed — a clear convenience advantage over older XP models.

Firmware updates via PC

The RCICON can be connected to a PC with a USB-C data cable to install firmware updates — XP actively maintains its detectors through software updates.

Why the ICON?

With the ICON, XP enters the competitive mid-range market — and for the first time positions itself directly against detectors under 800 euros.

A gap in the XP range

XP explicitly describes the ICON as the “lighter, more accessible little brother of the DEUS II”. While the DEUS II occupies the professional segment, the ICON is meant to bring the same FMF® technology into a lighter, more intuitive and more affordable package — without compromising on depth and precision.

A new operating paradigm

The ICON breaks with XP's previous philosophy of the miniaturised remote control. The wider display, icon-based menu navigation and directly printed VDI scale are conceptually similar to the Garrett Apex — accessible for newcomers without sacrificing professional functions.

Coil compatibility: Deus II FMF

The ICON is fully compatible with the DEUS II FMF coils: D22FMF (22.5 cm), DELLFMFHP (HF2, 24×13 cm), D28FMF (28 cm) and D3428FMF (34×28 cm). The ICON's standard coil has a diameter of 28 cm and weighs ~370 g incl. protective ring.

Competition 2026

The ICON competes with the Nokta Score, Minelab X-Terra PRO and Garrett Vortex — all multi-frequency detectors under 800 euros. The DEUS II's FMF system in this price class is a clear unique selling point.

Modular system remains

On the ICON, too, the coil, remote control and headphones remain separate components. The XP digital protocol connects all parts with a latency of only ~4 ms over 36 automatic channels in the 2.4 GHz band — without cables and without noticeable delay.

XP-interne Reaktion

XP has officially qualified the ICON for Longtime® certification — a recognised award for durability, reparability and long-term manufacturer support. Firmware updates, a 5-year warranty and an openly documented ecosystem underline this claim.

Timeline

From the trademark application to the market launch — all known dates at a glance.

10 June 2024

Trademark application “ICON”

SARL XPLORER registers the name “ICON” with the USPTO (serial number 98593063) — the first official indication of the project.

10 June 2025

FCC certification

The device passes US FCC certification under the code XFJRCICON. The technical development is thus considered officially completed — a market launch moves within reach.

June 2025

First photos & leaks

Pictures from the FCC documents and early test reports are shared in international forums — the community reacts with great interest and lively discussion about price and positioning.

September 2025

Detectival — no official launch

Contrary to community expectations, there was no world premiere at the Detectival festival in England. XP did not present the ICON publicly. At the same time, XP confirmed internally that the leaked photos had been revised.

Winter 2025

No Christmas launch

An initially expected market launch for the 2025 Christmas season did not happen. XP stuck to its revisions and announced “interesting surprises”.

April 2026

Official teaser film

XP Metal Detectors publishes an official teaser film for the XP ICON and ICON X. Both models are presented as affordable, powerful and easy to use. The detector is thus officially confirmed by the manufacturer.

2026

Market launch

XP has published the official prices for all four configurations. The ICON and ICON X are available in our shop.

WSA ST — is the extra cost worth it?

The WSA ST is XP's wireless stereo headphone with the patented XP digital protocol (~4 ms latency). Stereo audio morphing allows spatial target location by ear — a real advantage, especially on junk-littered ground. The extra 100 € compared with the version without headphones is clearly recommended.

5-year warranty

XP grants a 5-year warranty on parts and labour for the ICON and ICON X — optionally extendable. As an authorised XP dealer, we are your contact for warranty handling and service in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Personal advice

Not sure which configuration suits you? We give you honest advice — without sales pressure. By detectorists, for detectorists.

Accessories & compatibility

From the outset, the ICON has been designed as part of the XP ecosystem. It grows with your experience — and with your accessories.

Compatible FMF coils

All DEUS II FMF search coils work directly on the ICON: the 22.5 cm coil (D22FMF), the elliptical HF2 coil (24×13 cm), the 28 cm standard coil (D28FMF) and the large 34×28 cm coil (D3428FMF). If you already own a DEUS II, you can continue to use its coils directly.

Wireless XP headphones

All XP wireless headphones (WSA ST and others) are compatible — including stereo versions (WSA ST). The wireless headphones are not waterproof; the BH-02 bone conduction headphones are required specifically for underwater use (IP68, 5 m, 30 min) and come with a waveguide.

MI-6 pinpointer

The XP MI-6 pinpointer connects wirelessly to the ICON and offers audio and vibration modes as well as a loss alarm. Combined with the ICON, this creates a fully wireless search system — from the search coil to the pinpointer.

XP Go Terrain App

The free XP Go Terrain app connects to the ICON and enables GPS route recording, find logging and analysis directly on your smartphone. Every session can be documented and shared with the community.

Longtime® certification

XP holds the Longtime® certificate for the ICON — a recognised award for durability, reparability and long-term manufacturer support. This means spare parts, firmware updates and repairs will be offered for many years.

Warranty & activation

XP grants a 5-year warranty on parts and labour for the ICON and ICON X, optionally extendable. Batteries and accessories are covered for 2 years. To activate the full warranty, the detector must be registered online with XP after purchase.
