Arm rings are among the most common pieces of jewelry in archaeology. From the earliest times, they appear in many different shapes and materials and adorn the arm or wrist. The wearing of leg rings was limited to the Bronze and Iron Ages. Together with spiral rings and mountains, arm and leg rings served to embellish the body, express dignity and aesthetics and accumulate value. The 9th volume of the Bestimmungsbuch Archäologie series offers a comprehensive classification of these diverse groups of objects in the German-speaking world. The individual typical forms of jewelry from the Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages are presented, described and illustrated. The volume serves as a reference work for all those interested in archaeology.
