Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Scope of delivery
The Nokta Legend 2 comes as a standard set with two search coils and Bluetooth headphones – a scope of delivery that is unrivalled in this price class. When unpacking, check all the parts listed below for completeness and damage.
Nokta Legend 2 control unit
LD28 search coil (28 cm, 11" DD)
LD21 search coil (21×14 cm, elliptical DD)
Carbon fibre shaft (3-piece)
aptX™ Low Latency Bluetooth headphones
Integrated Li-Po battery (6,700 mAh, built-in)
USB charging cable
User manual (multilingual)
Important: The LG search coils of the Nokta Legend 1 are not compatible with the Legend 2. The Legend 2 uses the new LD coil series with a revised connector and new coil electronics. Only use LD coils.
Assembly & shaft
1
Connect the lower shaft to the search coil
First place the washers on the lower shaft. Insert the shaft into the coil bracket and turn the coil in from the side – the new carbon shaft of the Legend 2 allows this twist-in assembly for particularly compact transport. Secure the connection with the bolt and nut, but do not overtighten.
Hand-tight is enough – no tools needed
2
Assemble the shaft
Open the lever locks on the middle shaft. Push the lower shaft (with coil) and the upper shaft (control unit) together. Close the lever locks. The shaft can be extended from 63 cm (collapsed) to 145 cm – ideal for all body heights.
Shaft length: let your arm hang loosely, coil level above the ground
3
Route & connect the coil cable
Wind the coil cable loosely around the shaft in a spiral and plug the connector into the coil socket on the control unit. Turn the connector firmly until it clicks into place. Make sure that the cable is not taut and has enough slack for movement.
4
Adjust the armrest
Adjust the armrest so that your forearm rests comfortably and your hand grips the handle naturally. Your elbow should be in the middle of the armrest. Stretch out your arm – the detector should tilt slightly forward, not stand upright.
Correct ergonomics considerably reduces fatigue during long searches
Display & controls
The display of the Legend 2 has been considerably enlarged compared with its predecessor and shows all important information at a glance – without hidden submenus. The illuminated buttons allow precise operation even at dusk and in poor light.
Information bar at the top
Shows the time, time tracking, battery level, Bluetooth status and current search mode. All information is visible on the display at all times – no need to navigate submenus.
Target ID scale (1–99)
The extended 99 scale shows the conductivity of the detected object in real time. Discriminated ranges are greyed out. The current target value is shown large and easy to read in the centre of the display.
FerroCheck™ bar
A unique bar at the bottom of the display that shows the iron content of a signal graphically. The more bars are filled, the more ferrous the object – even if the target ID shows a non-ferrous value.
Depth indication
5-level depth indication on the right of the display: shows the estimated depth of the object during detection. The indication is based on signal strength and serves as a rough guide, not an exact measurement.
Sensitivity indicator
Shows the currently set sensitivity value (1–30). High values mean more depth but can lead to instability on heavily mineralised ground. A visual warning appears if the setting is too high.
Settings button
Pressing once opens the settings menu at the bottom of the display. All settings are visible in one line – frequency shift, recovery speed, iron filter, bottle cap filter, audio, Bluetooth and more.
Getting started
1
Charge the battery
Fully charge the battery before first use. Connect the USB cable to the socket on the control unit. The charge level is shown on the display. Full charge: approx. 3–4 hours. Run time on a full charge: up to 14+ hours (depending on settings).
Capacity: 6,700 mAh – 33% more than the Legend 1
2
Switch on the detector & ground balance
Press the on/off button. The detector starts in the mode last used. Hold the coil 20–30 cm above a metal-free area and carry out the automatic ground balance (hold the ground balance button, move the coil up and down). The detector beeps to confirm.
3
Carry out noise cancel
Select automatic noise cancel, especially in areas with sources of electromagnetic interference (power lines, other detectors). Hold the coil still in the air and activate automatic noise cancel – the detector selects the quietest channel by itself.
Repeat noise cancel when changing location
4
Select search mode
Select the search mode suitable for your terrain (Park, Field, Beach, Relic or Gold). Start with the factory settings and only adjust sensitivity and discrimination once you are familiar with the detector.
5
Swing technique & search speed
Swing the coil evenly and parallel to the ground – keep it approx. 5–10 cm above the ground. A swing width of 40–60 cm at an even, moderate speed is ideal. Swinging too fast significantly reduces detection depth.
The Legend 2 is a motion detector – the coil must be moving to detect
The 5 search modes
The Legend 2 has five factory-optimised search modes. Each mode has its own frequency presets, discrimination profiles and audio characteristics. Three individual user profiles can be saved per mode.
Park
Coins & jewellery in populated areas
Field
Historical fields & meadows
Beach
Salt water & beach
NEW
Relic
Historical sites & militaria
Gold
Mineralised goldfields
Park mode
Use: Parks, gardens, school grounds, recreational areas. Optimised for coins and jewellery where there is a lot of junk. Good separation between iron and non-ferrous metal. Recommendation: leave discrimination at the factory setting and adjust sensitivity according to the ground (20–26).
Field mode
Use: Fields, meadows, historical sites. A balanced ratio between depth and discrimination. Suitable for coin hunting on agricultural land and medieval sites. On loose soil: sensitivity up to 28 is possible.
Beach mode
Use: Dry & wet sand, saltwater beaches. Optimised stability for salty ground. Also use beach mode in shallow water – the Legend 2 is IP68-certified to 5 m. Tip: reduce sensitivity to 18–22 on wet sand.
Relic mode (NEW)
Use: Old settlement sites, militaria, historical battlefields, medieval sites. Depth boost active – responds more sensitively to deep and weak signals than other modes. Discrimination should be kept low so as not to miss any finds.
Gold mode
Use: Mineralised goldfields, gold nugget hunting. Activates a continuous threshold tone in the background. Volume and pitch vary in proportion to signal strength. No discrimination active (all-metal mode). Adjust sensitivity and threshold level individually.
Frequency selection & SMF technology
The Legend 2 offers both simultaneous multi-frequency (SMF) and five selectable single frequencies. In SMF mode, all frequencies are transmitted at the same time – for maximum depth and stability on changing ground. The single frequencies allow targeted optimisation for specific targets.
SMF
Multi-frequency
All targets & ground types, best all-round performance
4
kHz
Depth, large objects, militaria
10
kHz
All-round, coins & relics
15
kHz
Coins, medium depth
20
kHz
Silver coins, flat objects
40
kHz
Smallest objects, gold, shallow depth
Recommendation: For most uses, SMF is the best choice. Only switch to a single frequency if SMF runs unstably in a particular environment or you are searching specifically for a particular group of targets (e.g. 40 kHz for gold nuggets).
Setting the sensitivity
The sensitivity of the Legend 2 can be adjusted in 30 levels . Higher sensitivity means more depth but also increases susceptibility to interference – especially on mineralised or wet ground.
Level 1–15
Low – for heavily mineralised ground, salty terrain, very wet sand or environments with electromagnetic interference. Less depth, but a stable signal.
Level 16–22
Medium – standard range for most types of terrain. A good balance between depth and stability. Recommended for beginners and normal park areas.
Level 23–30
High – for loose, weakly mineralised ground (woodland, meadows, dry sandy soil). Maximum depth. If unstable, reduce by 2–3 levels until the signal is calm.
Rule of thumb: Set the sensitivity as high as possible while the detector still runs stably – i.e. without constant false tones when there is no metal under the coil.
Discrimination & notch function
Discrimination determines which conductivity ranges the detector mutes. The Legend 2 offers four discrimination modes plus a precise notch function, with which individual target IDs or ranges can be masked out specifically.
All metal
No metal is discriminated. All signals are shown. Recommended for Gold mode and on historical sites where no find should be lost.
Ground Off
Filters out the effect of ground mineralisation. Reduces false signals caused by mineral-rich soil. Useful on reddish-brown arable soil or volcanic ground.
Iron Off
All iron signals (target IDs 1–15) are discriminated. Practical for parks with lots of nails. Caution: historical iron objects are also suppressed.
Custom (notch)
Individual target IDs or ranges can be muted specifically. Example: bottle caps often lie at target ID 12–16 – mask out just this range without losing other non-ferrous metals. Ideal for experienced detectorists.
Caution: Any discrimination also means the risk of missing genuine finds. Historical bronze or copper coins can lie in discriminated conductivity ranges. If in doubt, always check unclear signals with pinpoint mode.
Ground balance
Ground balance is one of the most important settings for maximum depth performance and minimal false signals. The Legend 2 offers automatic and manual ground balance.
A
Automatic ground balance (recommended)
Hold the ground balance button. Move the coil evenly up and down (approx. 5–20 cm above the ground) over a metal-free area. The detector analyses the ground and gives a confirmation tone after 3–5 pumping movements. The value is shown on the display (typically 60–90 on arable soil).
Repeat ground balance at every new location
B
Manual ground balance
You can enter the ground balance value manually in the settings menu. Recommended if the automatic balance fluctuates (e.g. on very inhomogeneous ground with roots or stones). Typical guide values: sandy beach = 0–20, arable soil = 60–85, heavily mineralised ground = 85–95.
Understanding & using FerroCheck™
FerroCheck™ is Nokta's real-time iron analysis system. It evaluates incoming signals for their ferromagnetic component and shows the result as a graphic bar on the display – regardless of the target ID shown.
Empty bars
No iron content detected. The signal most likely comes from a non-ferrous object (coin, jewellery, copper). Digging recommendation: high.
→ Good find possible
Partly filled
Mixed signal – the object contains both ferrous and non-ferrous components. It may be a ferrous piece of jewellery, a tinned coin or a bottle cap. A closer check is recommended.
→ Check twice
All bars filled
A strongly ferrous object, even if the target ID shows a non-ferrous value (e.g. a bottle cap at ID 14). FerroCheck™ reliably identifies such “false” non-ferrous signals.
→ Probably junk
Important: FerroCheck™ works best with shallow objects with a strong signal. Deep objects produce weaker signals – here FerroCheck™ can be less reliable. Always pinpoint uncertain signals as well.
Pinpoint with live ID display
For the first time, the Legend 2 shows the target ID in real time while pinpointing – so you know what kind of object you are probably dealing with before you dig.
1
Activate pinpoint
Press the pinpoint button once. The detector switches to pinpoint mode – the signal is now output without discrimination and with increased sensitivity. The current target ID is shown large on the display.
2
Approach the coil slowly
Hold the pinpoint button and move the coil slowly and parallel to the ground towards the object. The tone becomes stronger as you approach the centre of the object. The FerroCheck™ bars are also active in pinpoint mode.
Cross-check: approach twice from different directions to find the exact centre of the object
3
Evaluate the target ID
The target ID shown in pinpoint mode gives clues about the object: ID 10–20 = iron range, ID 21–40 = small non-ferrous items & aluminium, ID 41–60 = medium-sized coins & jewellery, ID 61–80 = larger copper/bronze coins, ID 81–99 = silver, large brass/copper objects.
Saving user profiles
The Legend 2 lets you save up to 15 individual profiles (3 per search mode). This allows you to prepare different combinations of settings for different types of terrain and call them up at the press of a button.
1
Prepare the settings
Set all the desired parameters: search mode, sensitivity, discrimination, frequency, tone profile, recovery speed. Adjust all settings the way you want to use them for a particular type of terrain.
2
Save the profile
Hold the profile button until the save icon appears on the display. Select one of the three profile memory slots of the current mode. The profile is saved permanently – even after switching off.
Tip: name profiles after the terrain – e.g. park coins, beach wet, field relic
3
Load a profile
Briefly pressing the profile button switches between the factory setting and your saved profiles. The active profile is shown on the display by a number (1–3). The factory setting can always be restored.
Audio settings & Bluetooth
Volume
Adjustable in 6 levels. Outdoors, level 4–5 is recommended. Under water or with bone conduction headphones, level 3–4 is usually sufficient.
Tone modes
7 tone options: 2-tone, 4-tone and 99-tone (proportional to target ID). For beginners, 2-tone or 4-tone is recommended. The 99-tone mode outputs a separate tone for each target ID – maximum information density for experienced detectorists.
Threshold tone
Active in gold mode – an adjustable continuous tone in the background. Changes in the threshold tone indicate weak or deep targets. Pitch and volume of the threshold can be adjusted individually.
Bluetooth aptX™ LL
The supplied headphones use aptX™ Low Latency – minimal delay for precise real-time audio. Activated in the settings menu under Bluetooth. Range approx. 10 m. Also compatible with third-party headphones that support aptX LL.
Vibration
Optional vibration feedback when a find is detected – particularly useful when using the detector under water or in noisy environments. Can be activated in the settings menu.
OTA firmware update (wireless)
The Legend 2 can receive firmware updates wirelessly via smartphone or laptop – without PC software, without cables. This way, you always stay up to date.
1
Install the Nokta app
Download the official Nokta Detectors app to your smartphone (iOS/Android) or visit the Nokta website for the desktop update software. The app is available free of charge.
2
Connect Bluetooth
Activate Bluetooth on the Legend 2 (settings menu → Bluetooth on). Connect the smartphone to the detector. The app recognises the detector automatically and shows the current and available firmware versions.
3
Start the update
Tap on “Start update”. The progress is shown in the app. The detector restarts automatically after the update. Do not switch off during the update. The battery should be at least 50% charged.
Updates often bring new functions & improved ground processing

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Are Legend 1 coils compatible?
No. The LG coils of the Nokta Legend 1 do not fit the Legend 2 mechanically or electronically. Only LD coils (LD21, LD28 and others) are suitable for the Legend 2.
How deep does the Legend 2 detect?
Detection depth depends heavily on object size, soil conditions and sensitivity. Rough guide values: a coin (25 mm) in normal soil approx. 20–30 cm, larger objects 50+ cm. Mineralised ground reduces the depth.
How long does the battery last?
With normal settings (Bluetooth off, medium sensitivity), approx. 12–14+ hours. With Bluetooth and coil lighting active, approx. 8–10 hours. The battery is built in and can be charged via USB.
Can I search under water?
Yes. The detector, coil and WM-14 wireless module are waterproof to 5 m (IP68). Bone conduction headphones are recommended for underwater searching. Beach mode is optimised for wet and salty terrain.
What do target IDs 1–99 mean?
The target ID indicates how well an object conducts electricity. Low values (1–20): iron, nails. Medium values (21–55): aluminium, small non-ferrous items, many coins. High values (56–99): copper, silver, large coins and jewellery.
Which mode for beginners?
Recommendation for getting started: Park mode with factory settings. Set sensitivity to 20–22 and leave discrimination at the factory setting. Only adjust the settings individually after a few hours of practice.
