Why bone conduction headphones? With ordinary waterproof headphones, the ear fills with water underwater and hearing deteriorates noticeably. Instead, the BH-02 sits in front of the ears on the cheekbones and transmits the sound via vibrations directly to the inner ear – without putting strain on the eardrum. Your ears stay free.
In rough or noisy water you can also dive with earplugs to protect yourself from infections or simply to shield yourself better from noise. You still hear the sound perfectly via bone conduction while protecting your ears.
Can you listen to music from your smartphone with it? No. The BH-02 uses a proprietary connector, not a 3.5 mm jack plug; it is intended exclusively for use with the ICON(X).
Important note: When diving, only use special earplugs with pressure equalisation. Standard earplugs are unsuitable as they can damage the ear when diving. The headphones can also be used on land – whether you want to hear your surroundings or isolate yourself from noise. Suitable earplugs are also advisable here.
Bone conduction also allows people with hearing impairments to perceive the vibrations generated towards the cochlea. Depending on the type of impairment, lowering the audio frequencies (approx. 100 to 300 Hz) can further improve perception.
