LiDAR/Shading is a powerful tool for discovering new structures. Each German state has its own geoportal. These portals provide centralized access to geodata and geographic information. They publish official data. This includes maps, aerial photographs and cadastral information. Specialist data on the environment, transport, urban planning and monuments is also included.
Central features:- Central point of contact: Collection of the geoinformation of a federal state.
- Range of data: From official topographical maps to specialized data.
- Target groups: Authorities, companies, science and the public use it.
- Functions: Mostly interactive maps, search functions and download options.
These portals are part of the German Spatial Data Infrastructure (GDI-DE). They promote data exchange and interoperability between the federal states and the federal government.

In addition to Lidar (Digital Terrain Model DGM or also often shading ), building and ground monuments are displayed, which should of course be avoided as far as possible.
Explanation
Lidar (Light Detection and Ranging)Lidar is an active remote sensing method that uses laser pulses to measure distances. A lidar scanner emits light pulses and measures the time it takes for the reflected light to return to the sensor. In this way, a high-precision 3D point cloud of the earth's surface and the objects on it can be created.
ShadingShading is a method for the visual representation of terrain models. It simulates the illumination of the earth's surface from a specific direction, usually from the northwest. By creating shadows and highlights that correspond to the topography, the differences in height and shapes of the terrain become more recognizable to the human eye.
DTM (Digital Terrain Model)A DTM is a digital representation of the earth's surface without vegetation and buildings. It stores elevation information in a regular grid or as an irregular triangular network (TIN). The DTM serves as the basis for various applications such as the creation of shading maps, the calculation of inclinations and hydrological modeling.

Disclaimer and legal information on the subject of archaeological monuments. This website is intended solely to provide information on archaeological monuments and the legal framework for their protection. Please note the following important information:- Legal protection of ground monuments: In Germany (as well as in many other countries), ground monuments are protected by law. This is regulated in the monument protection laws of the respective federal states. Any alteration, damage or removal of a ground monument without official permission is prohibited and can be prosecuted.
- Prohibition of illegal searches: The targeted search for ground monuments with Metalldetektoren, probes or similar devices is strictly prohibited. If finds are made during such a search, they are generally considered state property (treasure register) and can be confiscated. Violations of this prohibition can result in heavy fines and prison sentences.
- Obligation to report accidental finds: Anyone who accidentally comes across a ground monument or archaeological find is legally obliged to report this immediately to the responsible monument authority or the respective state office for the preservation of monuments. The site may not be altered until an expert assessment has been carried out.
