Volume 4, Berlin/Munich 2016
The fourth volume in the series presents two groups of artefacts that were used for personal hygiene, aesthetic and hygienic treatment as well as medical care in prehistoric to early medieval times.
The objects range from combs, mirrors, razors and tweezers for cosmetics and hygiene to scalpels, dental forceps and bone saws in the medical field. Despite their long tradition, the individual objects are still surprisingly up-to-date in terms of form and function. The medical implements from the Roman period are particularly surprising due to their high standard of craftsmanship.
