Archaeology Identification Book Volume 1.
Volume 1 of the "Bestimmungsbuch Archäologie" series published by the Landesstelle für die nichtstaatlichen Museen in Bayern explains garment clasps (fibulae) as archaeological key finds, spanning epochs from around 500 BC to 1000 AD. The new series is based on the results of the AG ARCHÄOLOGIETHESAURUS founded on the initiative of the Helms-Museum Hamburg. It has set itself the goal of developing a standardised vocabulary of clearly defined terms that can be used nationwide and is intended to facilitate the inventorying of collections in archaeological state museums and state offices as well as in regional museums. The identification book can be used by both laymen and scientists and offers various levels of indexing for inventorying. Each term is accompanied by a definition, a source reference and an illustration. Information on dating and distribution is also provided to help categorise the object types.
