The coin treasure of Gailertsreuth - A coin treasure from the first half of the 15th century in the Upper Palatinate
In July 2022, hobby historian Steffen Oberst from Weiherhammer discovered a coin hoard during a metal detector on a family-owned piece of woodland, which greatly enriches the find landscape of the Upper Palatinate of the first half of the 15th century, especially that of the region close to the border. This is the coin find from Gailertsreuth, a district of the market town of Floß in the district of Neustadt a.d.WN. The coin hoard is one of the largest, or perhaps the largest coin find from the 15th century that has ever been found in the Upper Palatinate.
The coin hoard was cleaned and restored by the finder, Steffen Oberst, and then analysed by Helmut Friedl from Pfreimd. The results can be found in this publication with a report on the find and a fully illustrated catalogue. In a separate article, Tilman Mittelstraß discusses the two coin hoard vessels in detail.
